Bates’ residential life is intended to attract students seeking values of academic engagement, diversity, personal responsibility and accountability, and respect for the rights of others.
Housing: supporting individuality and community
Bates new student housing, was designed, from the ground up, for inclusion. It exceeds ADA compliance guidelines, including gender-neutral bathrooms, and is designed to facilitate student interaction so students meet and learn from a wide range of people different from themselves.
Dining: many cultures, many tastes
In the design of Bates new dining commons as well as the President’s year-long initiative to raise awareness about food across the disciplines, the College approaches dining as a social, economic, and physical experience, with opportunities to understand and learn about new perspectives and new tastes.
