Office of Intercultural Education
We support students from communities underrepresented and engage everyone at Bates in the important work of advancing diversity and access.
OIE engages, educates, and connects all members of the community in the essential work of bridging cultural differences in order to enrich the Bates experience. Its resources at 63 Campus Ave. include:
• A library
• Computer facilities
• Dedicated prayer rooms for Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu adherents
• Lounges, study areas and a fully equipped kitchen.
Several student cultural, religious and ethnic organizations have their offices at OIE, including Amandla!, Hillel, the International Club, Mushahada, OUTfront, Sangai Asia and Latinos Unidos.
