If you’re unsure what you’ve just experienced, then maybe you don’t want to rush into a formal report and legal proceedings — maybe you just want to receive confidential counsel. Below is a list of resources that Bates offers students, they are annotated to indicate whether they are formal resources (F), or informal (I). These designations doesn’t necessarily respond to the severity of your experience, etc.
Health Center (F, I)
The use of Medical Services is completely confidently and free to students. 24 Hour RN Consultation, MD and NP Appointments, Womens Health Services, Men’s Health Services, Inpatient Facilities, Referral To Community Resources, Allergy Injections, Travel Medicine, JYA Physicals, Flu Vaccines, and Smoking Cessation. Students may also meet confidentially with the Bates SAVA (Sexual Assault Victim’s Aide). The SAVA may be reached at 207-753-6996 or sava@bates.edu

Environmental Health & Safety

The EHS Office provides fire safety training and program oversight, employee safety training in all OSHA, EPA, DEP and DOT regulatory programs applying to the College, internal consulting on safety and environmental issues, emergency response coordination for chemical releases, student residence fire safety inspections, hazardous and biomedical waste disposal oversight and regulatory compliance reporting for environmental compliance.

Office of Intercultural Education (F, I)
OIE engages, educates, and connects all members of the community in the essential work of bridging cultural differences in order to enrich the Bates experience. Its resources at 63 Campus Ave. include: A library, Computer facilities, Dedicated prayer rooms for Muslim, Buddhist, and Hindu adherents, Lounges, study areas, and a fully equipped kitchen.

Multifaith Chaplaincy (F, I)
The Rev. William Blaine-Wallace and Emily Wright- Timko serve as multifaith chaplains. They are available for pastoral conversation. Bates students are also served by Roman Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim and Christian Science-associated chaplains. Representatives of other religious traditions may be contacted through the Multifaith Chaplaincy. The Multifaith Chaplaincy supports campus religious organizations embracing diverse spiritual traditions and is eager to support people interested in developing new organizations.

Security & Campus Safety
Safety programs for students include: The SafeWalk student escort program; The shuttle system; The Whistle Alert program; RAD, a self-defense course for women; And the dorm liaison program. Remember: Do use the SafeWalk program. With just a phone call, two Bates students will keep you safe on your walk home! Security offers free whistles as part of its Whistle Alert program. Pick one up at the Security office and put it on your keychain. Call if you see anything suspicious.

Dean of Students (F)
DOS is responsible for the welfare of the student body and for a wide range of services. Among other responsibilities, this office administers the faculty advisory system for entering students, health services, security, housing, residential and extracurricular matters and new-student orientation. The deans are your first stop for questions about virtually any facet of the Bates experience. DOS also distributes the Rape and Sexual Assault handbook.

Equity Resources(F)
This office is responsible for monitoring the college’s commitment to equal opportunity and inclusiveness. The Director and Coordinator work with others to design and carry out institutional diversity initiatives that strategically and proactively promote a culture of inclusiveness. The office ensures the fulfillment of applicable regulations and college policy; provides leadership and working with all elements of the College to promote the prioritization of diversity; and serves as a resource for the campus community in the development of innovative diversity efforts.

Junior Adviser, Residential Coordinator (F, I)
JAs serve as guides, resources and role mod- els for first-year students. Each JA works with a first-year center (six to 15 first-year students residing in the same floor or section of a student residence). RCs serve as building coordinators and organizers in residences that house mostly upperclass students. RCs also work with Physical Plant to accurately attribute residence damage fees. Website.
Tri-County Mental Health Services Crisis Center (F, I)
The Statewide Toll-Free Crisis number for Maine is: 1-888-568-1112 or local number is: 207-783-4680. Both of these numbers (when dialed from Androscoggin County) will ring into the Tri-County Mental Health Services Crisis Center in Lewiston. Crisis staff are able to meet confidentially with students at the health center, in their homes/dorms, or at our Lewiston Office. Bates College Security has an agreement with TCMHS to respond to crisis calls on campus as needed. Website.
