Learning in Common: Creating Connections
Our deep thinking, our scholarship, and our creative projects often require quiet, solitude, and reverie. Yet learning—whether teaching our students or learning from colleagues—occurs best in fluid, dynamic environments where we collaborate with others. How do we keep the synapses firing when moving from our offices, labs, or studios into the classroom? How do we connect with students whose brains (some claim) are wired differently? And how do all of us engage more richly with each other as thinkers, learners, and teachers?
With support from a Mellon Foundation grant, the Sixth Annual May Conference features a full day with guest facilitators. Morning panels will explore effective teaching and learning; afternoon workshops will highlight ways best practices can lead to productive innovations in the classroom and across the curriculum. As we look ahead to a Learning Commons at Bates, we invite faculty and staff to come together, to collaborate, and to connect.
