Baxter Bushwackers I

Trip Description

Baxter State Park has some of the wildest and most spectacular terrain in New England and includes Maine’s highest peak, Mt. Katahdin. Following a rigorous schedule and strenuous days of hiking, this trip is open to experienced hikers who want to challenge themselves and accomplish the feat of summiting Katahdin. Traversing the ridge between Pamola Peak and Baxter Peak, this trip takes you up Knife Edge, the most famous trail to the summit. You will be sure to catch a glimpse of everything from this 5267 foot peak and you won’t be let down by the views.
Mileage: 23 miles

*Baxter Bushwackers I & II share the same itinerary, but are run in opposite directions.

Emma Perkinson

I’m a senior from the sweet southern town of Charlottesville, Virginia. I love history, in fact thats what I study, so y’all can quiz me on the trail. I can peal an orange really fast, in one piece. If you think you’re good, lets race. I am awful at throwing a frisbee, although I have always wanted to play ultimate. After high school, my parents moved to Blue Hill, Maine so I am a full time Mainer who knows this state like the back of my hand… but who really knows that the back of their hand looks like. I’m pretty nice, but if you are smart enough to pick our trip and you meet Keller, he is the funniest senior you will know at Bates. How’s that for incentive! See you in August! xoxo

Sean Keller

AND NOW….INTORDUCING… hailing from Queens, NY, standing 5 foot 9, number 11 in your playbooks, number one in your hearts SEEEAAANNNN KELLLLLLEERRRR. Sean, also a senior, works at the student-run coffeehouse, The Ronj, so an AESOP with him basically means free drinks for life (not really). An economics major, he loves Bates wholeheartedly and can’t wait to tell you about it. Check him out on Tuesdays from 2-4 on WRBC, the Bates radio station or over on the ice winning the IM Broomball championship. He loves lakes and swimming in them, so we’ll definitely find some while we traverse the wonder that is Baxter State Park. I CAN throw a frisbee, and plan to on this trip.
