Requirements for Joining the Bates Network

  • Installation of the Bradford Campus Manager client. Once you have installed the client and connect to the Bates Network, your computer will be scanned for a supported and up-to-date operating system and for an installed and up-to-date anti-virus software package. Once you have successfully passed these requirements, you’ll have access to a variety of network resources such as the Internet, Network File Storage, and Network Printing.
  • Supported Operating Systems (Beta releases of operating systems are not supported.)
    a. Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, 32-bit or 64-bit; including all updates
    b. Mac OS X v10.5 and higher, including all updates
  • Installed and up-to-date anti-virus software.  Bates provides free Sophos Anti-Virus to all current students.

  • Computer Sales & Service: “The best place on campus for all your computing supplies!”  Visit our customized Dell and Apple Stores for academic pricing on computers. e-Academy is a convenient option for purchasing Microsoft Office for Windows and Mac. Printers, ink, software, network cables, laptop locks, surge protectors, and other supplies are competitively priced and available for purchase at the Computer Sales and Service office.
  • Bates GMail: New for Summer 2012, GMail will be our web based e-mail client, providing you with access to your e-mail from any Internet connected computer. To learn more about the Bates is Going Google project, visit the Campus Connect website.
  • Network Printing: Laser Printers are available next to Help Desk Services in Ladd Library.
  • Network File Storage: Each student is provided with 50MB of network file storage for academic purposes. Access to your files is available from anywhere on campus as well as anywhere in the World with an Internet connected computer.
  • Personal Web Page Hosting:  Each student is provided with the option to create and publish your own personal website.
