Benjamin K. Hansberry

Benjamin Hansberry holds a PhD in Music Theory from Columbia University. His research explores the relationship between the experiential and non-experiential concepts that underlie contemporary music analysis and music criticism. His other research interests include song analysis (particularly 19th-century Lieder), Schenkerian theory, music-analytical disagreement, and intersections between music theory and analytic philosophy. His philosophical interests include philosophy of mind, epistemology, and meta-ethics.
Dr. Hansberry has presented research at the Society for Music Theory, the Royal Music Association Music and Philosophy Interest Group, and various regional meetings. He has published in Current Musicology and his article “What Are Scale-Degree Qualia?” was published in Music Theory Spectrum in Fall 2017.
