Robert has a Ph.D. in Creative Writing and Literary Studies from the University of Denver and an M.F.A. in Writing and Poetics from Naropa University.  Along with three books of poetry, he has published poems in numerous literary journals and received many awards and grants, including the 2009 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities, State University of New York.  In the same year, he was also a Hearst Visiting Fellow for Historical Research by Creative and Performing Artists and Writers at the American Antiquarian Society.  His first book of poetry was completed with a Mellon Research Fellowship at the Massachusetts Historical Society.  He is currently editor for Poetic Research at Common-place.org and teaches in the English department here at Bates.
