Abby Childs '09 earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors in September, then claimed two postseason awards as well from the NESCAC and the NFHCA.

The Bates College field hockey team gives student-athletes a chance to play in one of the most competitive NCAA Division III conferences in the nation. Student athletes on the field hockey team are expected to be committed to the team and become responsible members of the Bates community. Individuals interested in playing collegiate field hockey with a strong academic background, a desire to learn and a positive attitude should consider applying to Bates.

The regular season consists of a 14-game schedule, including nine games against New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponents. The top seven teams in the regular season standings qualify for the NESCAC Championship, with the winner earning an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship.

2007 Recap

The Bates field hockey team's 2007 season was a good one on many levels. At 5-8, the Bobcats did not end up with the record that they had hoped for, but with the loss of 12 players from the 2006 squad and only three returning starters, the team felt good about 2007 as a great rebuilding year.

"We played better hockey than ever before and made strides that should make us more competitive next season," said head coach Wynn Hohlt.

Among the season's highlights from the fall were a last-second victory over NESCAC rival Trinity as well as the selection of junior Abby Childs to the All-NESCAC and All-New England squads.

"We are looking ahead to an even better year next year and hope to see you on the sidelines!" added Hohlt.
