Colon Named NESCAC Offensive Rookie of the Year

Brandon Colon is the second consecutive NESCAC Offensive Rookie of the Year for Bates. Ken Adams '07 won the award in 2003.
LEWISTON, Maine –
Bates College quarterback Brandon Colon was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Offensive Rookie of the Year on when the conference announced the all conference football teams on Friday afternoon. Seniors Mike Horan and Matt Orlando earned all conference recognition.

Colon '08 (Manchester, N.H.) started the final six games of the season for the Bobcats. He was ranked third among conference quarterbacks with 173 passing yards per game and a 99.6 passer rating. He set the single game completion record in a loss to Colby, completing 28-of-52 pass attempts for 294 yards.

Colon led Bates to a 28-7 win over Wesleyan in Week 4, snapping a 17-game losing streak to the Cardinals. Bates' last victory over Wesleyan came in 1982. He completed 49.6 percent of his passes on the season, throwing five touchdown passes and rushing for three more.

Horan '05 (Stoughton, Mass.) earned a first team All-NESCAC spot as a defensive back for the second consecutive season. Horan tied for the team lead with 7.5 tackles for loss and three interceptions. He made two of his interceptions to help lead the Bobcats over Wesleyan. Horan finished second on the team with 63 tackles.

Orlando '05 (South Portland, Maine) was a second team selection at wide receiver. He was Colon's top receiver, making 40 catches for 498 yards. Orlando finished his career with 110 receptions for 1200 yards.

Bates finished the 2004 season 2-6, winning the season finale vs. Hamilton 37-13. The Bobcats have won at least two games in three consecutive seasons for the first time since 1987.
