Marika Dalton
Marika Dalton is a visiting lecturer at Bates College for the Fall 2011 semester. She teaches Plate Tectonics and Tectonic Hazards. Her research revolves around active volcanism, including understanding passive volcanic degassing and strombolian eruptions using seismic, acoustic, and remote sensing techniques. Mari’s research interests have led her to investigate the eruption events of Reventador, Ecuador in 2002, including the separation of ash and gas in volcanic clouds; the shallow conduit dynamics behind the continuing eruption of Santiaguito, Guatemala; and the quantification of degassing and conduit structure at Pacaya, Guatemala leading up to the 2010 eruption.
Mari earned a B.A. from Vassar College in 2000, a M.S. from Michigan Technological University in 2006, and a Ph.D. from Michigan Technological University in 2010.
