Modern Studies

The major focus of our project is to use stable isotopes in ancient fish and marine mammal remains to obtain long term records of ecosystem dynamics.  However, before we can intrepret the isotopic signals from ancient samples, we need to understand how the isotopic signal reflects ecosystem dynamics (e.g., primary production, trophic connectivity and foodweb dynamics) in modern settings.  The modern sites we are currently studying are at Land’s End, Maquoit Bay, and Macworth Island.
