Land’s End, Bailey Island

Land’s End, is a mixed kelp and seagrass system located at the end of Bailey Island, ~20 km from Brunswick.  It is in direct contact with Casco Bay and the Gulf of Maine and is considered to be a relatively healthy system experiencing minimal influence from human activity.  Samples were collected in Fall, 2009 and span at least three trophic levels (primary producers and consumers, and secondary consumers).  Isotopic analyses are currently underway, in collaboration with Greg Henkes (Johns Hopkins University), Carrie Harris (Bates ’11, Biology) and Heather Doolittle (Bates ’12, Geology).
