Latest NewsBlazing finish for golf at NEIGA Championships 10/20/2009
With first-year Corey Gingras (Eastford, Conn.) withdrawing from play on the second day due to an ankle injury, it was ensured that each of the four remaining Bobcats' scores would count on Tuesday. First-year Jared Quenzel (West Hartford, Conn.) and senior captain Kurt Schuler (Windham, N.H.) both carded 77s, with Schuler scoring a blazing one under par on the back nine. First-year Adam Buchbinder (Waban, Mass.) carded an 80 and sophomore Lee Smith (Lexington, Mass.) shot an 81 for a one-day team score of 315, fourth best among all 21 Division III teams. "We may have shot as good as a 315 once before, but it wasn't on as challenging a course as the Captains course," said Bates head coach Bob Flynn. "The guys just played great. It was a nice way to finish the season." Quenzel led the Bobcats in total score, at 161. Schuler was just a stroke back at 162, Buchbinder shot a 167 and Smith was at 175. Gingras shot an 87 on Monday, saving the Bobcats seven strokes on their team score. |
