The Bates Health Center provides travel medicine services to students who are planning to study abroad or embark on a global adventure.
Study Abroad Physical Exams are provided by appointment at no charge, however, students are responsible for required lab tests, immunizations, and prescriptions. Students may call the Health Center at (207) 786-6199 to make an appointment . Students are asked to bring their study abroad forms to their appointment.
Travel Immunizations and Malaria Prophylaxis can be obtained at the Health Center. The Health Center can assist students in determining immunization requirements and in scheduling vaccines. Students should provide a detailed itinerary of destinations and activities. Helpful websites and information on malaria medications for Bates Travelers are listed here. An appointment with the Nurse Practitioner is required for malaria medication prescriptions. The Health Center provides detailed information about specific travel vaccines offered and their approximate costs. Travel vaccines are administered during the day, Monday through Friday. Please allow several weeks before travel to schedule appointments and vaccines.
