Webinar Wednesday – Zoom Video Conferencing
Wednesday, June 28, 2017  |  10:00am to 10:30am  |   Online/Virtual/Ladd Library, RM 148 (Instruction Room)

Are you interested in hosting an online video meeting/conference or just want to have a one-to-one video conference with someone across the campus or on the other side of the country? Not sure what to use? As a member of the Bates College Community, you already have a basic account and access to the Zoom Video Conferencing Platform. With a Zoom Basic Account, you can have 1 host and up to 50 participants, with no time restrictions for one-to-one conferences and a 40 minute time restriction for conferences between 2 and 50 participants. With a Zoom Professional Account, you can have up to 9 hosts, 50 participants, with no time restrictions. Join me via a Zoom Webinar and you’ll learn how to access the Zoom Conference Platform, explore the Zoom interface, and learn the basics of scheduling a Zoom meeting/conference, notifying your participants, and discovering some of the additional features available with Zoom.

Prerequisites: Participants will need access to a computer (Windows or Mac) connected to the Internet, speakers/headphones*, comfortable with using and navigating websites with a web browser, and knowledge of your Bates username and password. If you do not have speakers or access to headphones you will need a telephone capable of making long distance phone calls. If you are unable to make long distance phone calls, please contact Help Desk Services at (207) 786-8222/x8222 and ask to be transferred to the webinar conference call.

Ask the Expert Series – Join Lynda and Lee!

Do you have a bit of downtime this summer or some slow periods? What a great opportunity to learn about something new either professionally or personally with Lynda and Lee! Lynda.com offers thousands of video courses designed to help you achieve your academic, professional, and personal goals. During this session, you will be introduced to Lynda.com and some of the course offerings available to you. As a member of the Bates College Community, you have access to thousand of online courses! You’ll learn about the interface and some of the features available from Lynda, including the ability to download courses so you can continue to learn even when you don’t have Internet access. Lee will be available to answer your questions, help you navigate through the content, and develop a customized learning path through the use of playlists. If you are already familiar with Lynda.com, come and utilize this scheduled time and location as a place to continue your online learning.

Webinar Wednesday – Bates Gmail Settings Check-Up

If you are new to Bates Gmail or even a seasoned user, there may be some new settings available or settings you might not have known existed in your Bates Gmail account. For example, the Undo Send feature was moved from being an experimental lab/add-on to becoming a standard feature available in your settings. You may have also noticed those little yellow flags, known as Importance Markers to the left of your messages and may wonder what they are, what they are used for, and how to get rid of them. During this webinar, we will explore many of the settings available for you to customize in Bates Gmail.

Prerequisites: Participants should primarily access Bates Gmail via a web browser. To join the webinar you will need access to a computer (Windows or Mac) connected to the Internet, speakers/headphones*, comfortable with using and navigating websites with a web browser, and knowledge of your Bates username and password. Special Topics in G Suite – Your Questions Answered: G Suite Drive (Repeat Session)

Are you new to G Suite Drive (Google Drive) and want to learn more about it? Have you been using G Suite Drive, but don’t know everything you can do with it or have some unanswered questions? G Suite Drive is a cloud-based file storage option available to members of the Bates College community. With your G Suite Drive account, you have an unlimited amount of storage, and you can view many different types of files without any added plug-ins or software to install. G Suite Drive is also the location of where the documents you create with any of the G Suite Applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides) are kept.

During this hands-on workshop, you will learn everything there is to know about your G Suite Drive, including the new Team Drive. You’ll learn about the various ways to access your G Suite Drive, how to share files with other individuals, and learn some tips and tricks along the way.

Prerequisites: Participants should be comfortable with utilizing a computer with Microsoft Windows 7, comfortable with using and navigating websites with a web browser, and knowledge of your Bates username and password.

Ask the Expert Series – Managing your Bates G Suite Group
Tuesday, August 1, 2017  |  2:00pm to 3:00pm  |   110 Russell St., RM 116 (Conference Room)

If you administer a Bates G Suite Group (Google Group) and have questions or would like to learn more about the features available to manage your group, this workshop if for you!

During this session you will learn:

  • About the different permissions, you can setup for your Bates G Suite Group.
  • How to customize your Bates G Suite Group.
  • How to add individuals to, and remove individuals from, your Bates G Suite Group.
  • How individuals can join and leave your Bates G Suite Group.
  • How to list your Bates G Suite Group in the Bates G Suite Groups Directory.
  • How to transfer ownership or add owners/managers to your Bates G Suite Group.
  • How to change Bates G Suite Group moderation.

Special Topics in G Suite – G Suite Hangouts (Instant Messaging)
Thursday, August 10, 2017  |  10:00am – 11:00am  |  Pettengill Hall, RM 329

Join me to learn about a collaborative feature that is part of your Bates G Suite account. G Suite Hangouts is an instant messaging platform that allows you to have one-to-one and group text chats with other members of the Bates College Community or with individuals who also have a G Suite account. Maybe you have a colleague that is on the phone and you need to communicate some important information to them, but don’t want to interrupt them, or maybe you have a quick question you want to ask someone but it may not warrant a phone call or email message – send them an instant message with G Suite Hangouts!

During this session, you will learn:

  • How to access and use G Suite Hangouts.
  • About some of the additional collaboration features that are available to you.
  • About the settings, you can change and customize.
  • Some little-known tricks and tips.

We will also discuss the differences between G Suite Hangouts and the Zoom Video Conferencing Platform.

Prerequisites: Participants should be comfortable with utilizing a computer with Microsoft Windows 7, comfortable with using and navigating websites with a web browser, familiar with G Suite – Bates Gmail, and knowledge of your Bates username and password.
