Special Topics in Microsoft® Office – Working with Long Documents in Microsoft® Word

If you’re going to be writing a long document, such as a report, paper, or thesis book in Microsoft® Word, then this hands-on workshop is for you. Knowing how to build a strong foundation for your long documents can save you hours in formatting and finalizing your document.

In this workshop, you will learn how Microsoft® Word can help you with preparing and creating long documents. There are many tools and features in Microsoft® Word that can make the managing of long documents simple and stress-free.

During this hands-on workshop, you will learn:

  • How to Add Cross-References
  • How to Add Bookmarks
  • How to Navigate Through Your Long Document
  • How to Work with Footnotes and Citations
  • How to Easily Create a Table of Contents and Index That Can Quickly Be Updated with Just a Few Mouse Clicks

Special Topics in Banner – Ellucian® Banner Overview and Navigation

Wednesday, March 21, 2018  |  1:30pm – 2:30pm  |  Ladd Library, RM 148
Registration is required.

In this workshop the question “What is Banner?” will be answered. You will be provided with an overview of the Ellucian® Banner Administrative System, how Banner interacts with other campus systems, how to access Banner, the components that make up the Banner Suite, Banner Forms. You will also learn how to efficiently navigate Banner through its menus, keyboard shortcuts, and Direct Access/Go To dialogue box. The basics of searching will also be covered.

Prerequisites: Participants must have Banner Account (Username and Password). Participants should also be comfortable with utilizing a computer with Microsoft® Windows 7 and comfortable with using and navigating websites with a web browser. Your Bates network username and password are also required.

Webinar Wednesday – Working with Data and Tables in Microsoft® Excel

If you organize data into a range of rows and columns, you can then easily sort and filter the data into the desired order. With Tables in Microsoft® Excel, you can quickly sort and filter the table columns, add total rows, and apply table formatting to a Microsoft® Excel table. Once you create a table in Microsoft® Excel, you can easily find, organize, and analyze its information with Microsoft® Excel’s rich set of table-management features.

Ever wonder what is G Suite and why you would use it? This Three-Part Special Topics in G Suite Series will cover all of the popular G Suite applications (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms). Each of these hands-on and collaborative workshops can be taken individually or can be taken as a series (recommended). If taken as a series, the workshops will build upon each other. If taken independently, materials will be provided from the previous workshop(s) to get participants up to speed.

During each workshop, you will learn the basics of each application that makes up the suite, why you would use a particular application, and some tips and tricks will be sprinkled along the way. Even if you’re a seasoned user of G Suite, feel free to join the cohort, you may learn something new, or come and share your knowledge with your colleagues. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about 5 G Suite applications in three days that may add efficiencies and collaborative tools to your current workflow!

Webinar Wednesday – All about Tabs and Indents in Microsoft® Word

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to use tab stops in your document, allowing you to create uniformly spaced text. Rather than adding a bunch of spaces, tabs ensure your text remains properly aligned. With the use of indenting, you can add blank space between the page margin and the paragraph text. Long quotations, lists, and bibliographies are a few examples of paragraphs that are often indented.

During this webinar, you will learn:

Mail merge letters are used to send the same or similar documents to many different people at once, but personalized. The steps for creating a mail merge isn’t a complicated process but requires a bit of planning and preparation before creating a mail merge. The mail merge process isn’t just for mailings anymore. You can use the mail merge process to personalize just about any document, from letters and labels to certificates of achievement to name badges and more!

During this hands-on workshop, you will learn:

  • How to, and the Steps Necessary for Creating a Successful Mail Merge
  • How to Create Labels and Envelopes Using the Mail Merge Process
  • Alternative Ways to Use the Mail Merge Process
