Sick Leave

Sick leave benefits are intended to provide income protection in the event of illness or injury, and may not be used for any other absence.

Sick leave is credited to benefit eligible staff members starting with their first day of employment at a rate of approximately 10 days a year.  Sick leave should be used for the occasional illness and unused days accumulate in a bank that can be used to cover the 30-day elimination period before Short-term disability benefits begin.  Accumulated sick days are not paid out upon termination.

See the Bates College Employee Handbook for complete details regarding sick leave, including how much time positions accrue each year.
