How to Access Network Storage (China, Belfast)
Access to these servers is only available on campus (installation of a VPN client is by contact with Help Desk Services and by permission only).
A. On a Windows computer:
- Click Start, and then click Run
- Type in: \\china [or \\belfast]
- Students are prompted for username and password in the following manner BCISusername then network password
NOTE: Faculty and staff should not need to enter a username and password - Click OK
- A window opens with a Departments folder. Then double-click on the desired department subfolder to access a file by dragging and dropping file to the Desktop to open and work on
- Return the file by drag and drop from the local machine back to the network folder for storage. Users have permissions to only certain folders and subfolders on a given server. Permission requests should be directed to Help Desk Services
B. On a Mac computer:
- Under Go, click Connect to server
- Type smb://china [or //belfast].
NOTE: If afp is typed instead of smb, not all files may be visible. - Click to connect.
- When prompted, enter the following:
a) Workgroup or Domain: BCIS
b) Name: Bates Username
c) Password: Bates Password - Click OK
- From the Shared Volume drop down menu, select Departments
- Click OK
- On your Desktop, double-click the Departments icon
- Open the Folder or subfolder
- Work on the file and be sure to save/drag to the network icon.
- When you are finished, disconnect from China by dragging the Departments icon located on your Desktop to the Trash.
To move files from one of the network servers to your local machine (or a device connected to your computer such as an external hard drive, flash drive, or CD/DVD), drop and drag the file to the desktop or the destination drive. Questions, please contact Help Desk Services.
