Gmail Setup in Thunderbird
Make sure that your Thunderbird is up to date before you begin this process. Download the latest version of Thunderbird.
1. Open Thunderbird
2. Go to the Tools menu and down to Account Settings
3. On the left hand side, at the bottom of the window, click on Account Actions
4. Click Add Mail Account
5. Enter your full name, your Bates email address and your Bates network password. Click Continue.
6. Thunderbird will not be able to find the proper settings for your account automatically. Click on the Manual Setup button and put in the following settings.
Incoming: IMAP
Server Host Name:imap.gmail.com
Port: 993
SSL: SSL/TLS (Should change automatically when you enter the port number)
Authentication: Normal Password
Outgoing: SMTP
Server Host Name: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
SSL: SSL/TLS (Should change automatically when you enter the port number)
Authentication: Normal Password
Username: yourname@bates.edu
7. Click Create Account
