For Skype Users

For Participants Outside of Bates College

If you have been asked to participate in a Skype videoconference with Bates College, you will need to do the following:

  • have a computer with a webcam and microphone
  • install Skype on your computer, or if already installed, make sure you have the most up to date software
  • setup an account on Skype
  • inform your contact at Bates College of your Skype username

Skype has several built in features that allow you to test and make sure that your system is working properly. In particular, Skype has a Echo/Test account that will be listed in your contacts. Calling this account will allow you to test your speakers and microphone. We highly recommend that you use these features in advance of participating in the conference.

For Participants Inside of Bates College

If you are hosting a videoconference using Skype, we recommend you use room G13 in Pettengill Hall. This room has all the equipment you need for your conference. You can use the Bates College Skype account or your own account. The Bates College account allows you to have a conference with more than one person.
