A. Open Thunderbird on a PC or Mac.

1. From the Thunderbird menu, click Tools and then click Account Settings
2. In the Account Settings dialog box, select Composition & Addressing from the left side of the screen.
3. Under Addressing select Use a different LDAP server:
4. Click Edit Directories

B. In the LDAP Directory Servers dialog box, click Add

1. In the Directory Server Properties dialog box, on the General tab, enter the following information:
   1. Name: Bates LDAP
   2. Hostname: ldap.bates.edu
   3. Base DN: dc=bates,dc=edu

   NOTE:The Port Number should be left as the default.
   

2. Click OK to close the Directory Server Properties dialog box.
3. Click OK to close the LDAP Directory Servers dialog box.
4. In the Account Settings dialog box, open the pull down list under Addressing
5. Select the Bates LDAP server you just defined.
6. Click OK to exit the Account Settings dialog box.

C: To test the LDAP configuration:

1. Click Address Book
2. In the Address Book dialog box, select Bates LDAP
3. You should be able to type in a last name within the search box and see the results of the lookup
