19th Century Congressional Districts

A collaboration between the Imaging and Computing Center and John Baughman in the Department of Politics is underway to use Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to map and analyze US congressional districts at ten year increments in the 19th century. The first phase of the project is focused on mapping the districts from the congresses (16th, 21st, 26th, 31st, 36th, 41st, 46th, 51st, 56th, 61st) and determining the distance of each district from Washington D.C. Dr. Baughman will use these data to analyze voting patterns of members of congress.
