Exemption 2, involves children: Risk or damage resulting from disclosure
Imagine a situation in which your subjects’ responses were disclosed outside of a research setting. This could include accidental disclosures, malicious disclosures, or disclosures required by law (e.g., in response to a subpoena). Is there any chance that your subjects’ responses could:
- Put them at risk of criminal or civil liability, or
- Be damaging to their
- financial standing,
- employment prospects,
- educational advancement, or
- reputation?
Remember that you are talking about children, so be imaginative enough to imagine possible future results of disclosure over a long life course! If the answer to any of the above is yes, or you are not sure, please select “Yes.” Otherwise, please select “No.”
