IM – Intramurals. Intramurals provide an opportunity for students, staff and faculty members to participate in fun, competitive activities on campus. All participants must have a valid Bates ID in order to participate.

Philosophy. The philosophy of intramurals is to provide competitive activities for those who do not have the opportunity to participate on the varsity, junior varsity, and intercollegiate club teams. Students who are members of the varsity or junior varsity and intercollegiate club programs at Bates may be restricted from participating in that IM sport. Instead, these student-athletes may get involved by officiating or coordinating the IM leagues (see Coordinator Information). They may participate in other IM Leagues and IM Activities outside their varsity/jv/club team.

Leagues vs. Activities. IM leagues will run for several weeks whereas IM activities may be a one day or weekend event. All leagues and activities are co-ed unless specified otherwise. Intramural activities and leagues are supervised, coordinated and officiated by students. If interested in the position of IM Coordinator or IM Official, see Coordinator Information to apply. The annual list of leagues offered each academic year may be found at Intramural Leagues. The list of leagues and activities are not inclusive; if you would like to suggest another event, please contact IM Director, Marsha Graef.

Registration / Rules / Schedules / Results. All IM leagues and activities will be listed on the web site for the purpose of registration, schedules, rules and results of competition.

FYL – First Year League. The FYL is part of the IM program, offering a special night of competition just for first-year students, junior advisors, and faculty advisors . Teams may register as a FY Center or a combination of FY Centers. The purpose is to encourage new students to get to know members of their class in a fun environment. FYL Coordinators are needed each semester to run the league. Volleyball is offered for the Fall Semester while indoor soccer is the Winter Semester activity. See FY League for more information.
