Purpose Mr. Cooke eventually found his way to the burgeoning communications industry, and later earned his first fortune acquiring and operating radio stations and newspapers throughout Canada with partner Roy Thomson. In 1960, he became a U.S. citizen. From that point on, his business interests became many and varied, including ownership of television stations and professional sports teams. When he died in 1997, Mr. Cooke left most of his fortune to establish the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. The mission of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is to help young people of exceptional promise reach their full potential through education. Of particular focus is scholarships for outstanding individuals with financial need.
