Teaching and Learning as Critical Practice
Wednesday, September 12—4:15 PM to 5:45 PM
Join the Learning Commons at the Muskie Archives for the first in a year-long series of conversations about teaching and learning:
What classroom conditions make students want to “work hard”? At this interactive workshop, guest speaker Michael Reder will share the latest research on student engagement at liberal arts colleges and ask whether this research seems to reflect reality in our classrooms. Our conversation will also consider ways the college and the Learning Commons might more intentionally support faculty teaching and student learning. We will discuss the challenges and advantages of creating a center for teaching at a small college, as well as begin to answer what such a program might offer Bates faculty.
