Holds and Recalls

Library patrons may place a hold on a title that is checked out. Before placing the hold please search for an available copy via MaineCat. Frequently the same title is available at one the library of one of our consortial partners. If a copy is not available in either of these catalogs consider placing an Interlibrary Loan request.

  • Requests from MaineCat Libraries may take 2 – 5 days.

When a copy is not available from either of these resources complete the information on the Hold Form. Choose “Notify me when a copy is returned”. The hold does not change the due date, it simply ensures that the item may not be renewed by the original borrower. A hold will not be placed on a Bates title if a copy is available within CBB or MaineCat.

Fines and consequences for non-return of recalled material

All library materials are subject to recall for course reserve. Recalled items must be returned promptly. Materials may be recalled while the college is on an academic break, during exam periods, summer break, and from faculty on sabbatical. To avoid recall fines please consider returning any non-critical material before leaving campus.

Patrons with overdue recalled items are blocked from library borrowing until the recalled item is returned.

Fines are increased to $2.25 per day for overdue recalled items.
