Got news? Tap out a note to magazine@bates.edu!  Irving Isaacson’s L&A Fund, which he created last year to benefit local school kids, took off during a “Science Explosion” in June. Last spring at the Auburn Land Lab, students at Sherwood Heights Elementary School tested soil and learned about planting lupine from books such as Barbara Cooney’s Miss Rumphius. The traveling program was through the Boston Museum of Science, and the lupine seedlings were planted by the Auburn Public Library. Isaacson’s gift, over the next 10 years, will be used for creative projects in the L/A area. “Science is important to teach at an early age,” Ike said. “We hope that kids will acknowledge that it is a part of our world.”… The class is sorry to learn of the death of Louise Butler on Sept. 26, 2000, and sends our sympathy to Larry. They had been married for 60 years and always enjoyed coming to Reunion…. Added sorrow for the class, we regret to report deaths of Paul Tubbs on Dec. 28, 2000, and Lewis Davis on Feb. 3, and also express our sympathy to their families.
