Program Notes

The Bates College men's soccer team gives student athletes the opportunity to play in one of the most competitive NCAA Division III conferences in the nation. Members of the men's soccer team are expected to be committed to excellence both on the field and in the classroom.

The regular season consists of a 14-game schedule, including nine games against New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponents. The top seven teams in the regular season standings qualify for the NESCAC Championship, with the winner earning an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.

The Bobcats have earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Team Academic Award in each of the last three seasons by posting a team grade point average above 3.0.

2007 Review

The Bates men’s soccer team started off the 2007 season with a very successful tour of Scotland and England. The team went 3-1 against some very challenging opponents. The regular season saw some key injuries early in the season that hurt the team’s chances for a successful campaign.

In October, the Bobcats were back on track, going 4-3.  A strong finish — including a heartbreaking one-goal loss to eventual national champion Middlebury, as well as big wins against Southern Maine, Plymouth State, Endicott and a 3-2, come from behind, season-ending victory at Colby — has the returning Bobcats excited about 2008.

Senior forward Brent Morin earned All-NESCAC Second Team honors for the Bobcats, while senior goalkeeper Aaron Schleicher represented the team on the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
