2004-05 Program Notes

The Bates College men's squash program gives student-athletes the opportunity to compete against some of the top collegiate competition in the nation. Student-athletes with a proven academic background and a tenacious attitude on the squash court should consider applying to Bates.

The majority of the season consists of dual matches, most vs. traditional New England Small College Athletic Conference and Ivy League rivals. Team members also have the opportunity to play in individual tournaments. The team portion of the season ends at the College Squash Association Team National Championships, which is followed by the CSA Individual National Championships the next weekend.

2003-04 Recap and 2004-05 Outlook
Bates finished the 2003-04 season ranked 10th, its highest ever, after beating Amherst 5-4 in the 11th-place match at CSA Team Nationals. The win avenged a 6-3 loss to the Lord Jeffs earlier in the season and propelled Bates to a 15-6 record, including seven consecutive wins, by a combined score of 69-3, entering the team national championship. The Bobcats were the highest ranked team in Maine for the second year in a row after finishing the season 5-0 against Bowdoin and Colby.

Ben Schippers '04 (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won the Malloy Division Consolation Bracket at individual nationals to finish the season 18-8. Gary Kan '07 (Hong Kong) was 17-4 at the No. 2 spot for the Bobcats, and Rob Weller '05 (Penn Valley, Pa.) was 16-4, spending most of the season at No. 5.

The Bobcats return all but two players from last year's team.
