Mahan, Katz bracket semifinalists at CSA Individual Nationals

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Bates men's squash players Kush Mahan and Will Katz both ended their runs in the semifinals of separate Molloy Cup brackets Sunday in the College Squash Association Individual Nationals at Williams College.

Mahan (Gainesville, Fla.) defeated Will Morris of Williams 9-3, 7-9, 9-3, 9-3 in the quarterfinals of the Molloy Cup (B Division) Third Round Consolation Bracket. Earlier in the day he fell to Western Ontario's Chris Hanebury in five games in the Round of 16 in the main draw, 7-9, 9-4, 9-7, 4-9, 9-7. Mahan fell to Nick Sisodia of Dartmouth in the bracket semifinals on Sunday in five games, 8-9, 3-9, 9-5, 10-8, 9-4.

Katz (Bronxville, N.Y.) defeated Cameron Henry of Williams in straight games, 9-2, 9-5, 9-4, in the Round of 16 of the Molloy Cup Second Round Consolation Bracket, then advanced to the semifinals with a five-game win over Charles Jarvis, 7-9, 5-9, 9-8, 9-1, 9-0. Katz fell to Naishadh Lalwani of Yale on Sunday in the semifinals in four games, 4-9, 9-4, 9-4, 10-9.

Mahan received a first-round bye before coasting past Christian Henze of Williams in straight games, 9-2, 9-0, 9-1, advancing to face Hanebury.

In the bottom half of the Molloy draw, Katz won his opening-round match in straight games over Balaji Sridhar of MIT, 9-1, 9-3, 9-0, before falling in five games to Gabriel De Melo of Franklin & Marshall 4-9, 5-9, 9-3, 9-3, 9-0, sending him into the Second round Consolation Bracket.
