Will Boe-Wiegaard started strong on Saturday, but was unable to take advantage of his home courts in the first round of the NCAA Championships.

LEWISTON, Maine – Bates College sophomore Will Boe-Wiegaard lost in straight sets to Redlands' Brian Murphy 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of the 2004 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships on Saturday afternoon.

Boe-Wiegaard, the tournamen'ts No. 8 seed, finished the season 20-11.

It was a tough day for seeded singles players, as seven of the eight lost were eliminated in the first two rounds.

The first round of the doubles tournament was interrupted by rain on Saturday evening and will resume on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. The singles quarterfinal and semifinal rounds are scheduled for Sunday.
