Jennifer Woodruff

Jennifer Woodruff received her Ph.D in Musicology from Duke University. At Bates, she teaches courses on popular music, music and identity, and musical theatre. Her research interests include children and the media, black popular culture, and the politics of listening. Her dissertation research documented African-American girls’ musical practices at a Boys and Girls’ Club in Durham, NC. In addition, she is active as a singer, specializing in contemporary concert music and musical theatre. She was the recipient of a Charlotte W. Newcombe Dissertation Fellowship from the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.
