Service to others has been a hallmark of the Bates tradition, as much a part of our identity as the sound of the Hathorn Hall bell, for over 150 years.
The Bates National Day of Service is sponsored by the Office of Alumni and Parent Programs and the Harward Center for Community Partnerships, which was created to link civic engagement with the educational mission of Bates College and to assure that the bonds forged between the College and the Lewiston-Auburn community during the tenure of President Emeritus Donald W. Harward and his wife, Ann M. Harward, endure and grow.
The National Day of Service was inaugurated in 2005, with over 200 Bates alumni, parents, students, and friends coming together in seven cities across the United States. Linda Gramatky Smith '64 serves as Chair of the NDS Committee.
