Former Polytechnic University head discusses machines, biology, society

An engineer will discuss science, technology and society on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. in Room 204 of Carnegie Science Hall at Bates. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

George Bugliarello, chancellor and former president (1973-94) of Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, N.Y., will deliver a lecture, Machines, Biology and Society. An engineer and educator whose background ranges from biomedical engineering to fluid mechanics, computer languages and socio-technology. Bugliarello is a founding fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and a member and former president (1992-93) of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society. The society’s southern Maine chapter is sponsoring the lecture.
