Flute choir Howlin Winds to perform

Howlin Winds, Maine's premier flute choir, will perform From Mozart to Jazz, a program featuring Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, three operatic selections, a selection of Gaelic melodies and a jazz composition, July 23 at 6 p.m. on the Bates quadrangle. The performance is part of the Bates College Midsummer Concert Series, and the public is invited to attend free of charge.
Dance festival to feature 'Faculty Gala'

The Bates Dance Festival presents Alone & Together: Faculty Gala July 18 at 8 p.m. in Schaeffer Theatre. $12/$8 (students and seniors). The performance features an evening of modern, ballet, hip hop and jazz solos and duets by dance artists Michael Foley, Vincent Mantsoe, Maria Simpson, Katiti King and Clyde Evans, followed by a post-performance discussion with the artists.
JAZZDANCE to open Bates Dance Festival

The Bates Dance Festival, northern New England's leading contemporary dance presenting and training program, presents the jazz maverick Danny Buraczeski in concert with his company JAZZDANCE July 25 at 8 p.m. Tickets for the performance are priced at $14 and $8 (for full-time students and seniors) and may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 207-786-6161 in the Lewiston Middle School Auditorium, located on Central Avenue. The evening features critically acclaimed works by Minneapolis-based JAZZDANCE, highlighted by a special preview of Ezekiel's Wheel, a new piece based on the fiction of James Baldwin, with an original score by composer-vocalist Philip Hamilton. The concert also will include Scene Unseen, with music by Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington, and Swing Concerto, with music by Brave Old World, Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman.
Midsummer Lakeside Concerts to begin

The Bates College Midsummer Lakeside Concert Series will present five Thursday-evening musical performances in July and August. Due to construction on Lake Andrews, this season's concerts will be held on the main Bates College quadrangle. All concerts begin at 6 p.m., and the public is invited to attend free of charge.
Well-known vocal ensemble to perform

Kent Camerata, an acclaimed international touring vocal instrumental ensemble in residence at Kent State University, performs July 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The program includes music by Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Dvorak, Chabrier, Loeffler and Faure. The public is invited to attend with a suggested donation of $5 for general admission and $2 for seniors and students.
