Bates students present "Celebrating Places We Call Home: Stories From Lewiston-Auburn"

Bates College students enrolled in "Literature and the Environment" will present the results of a semester-long project, "Celebrating the Places We Call Home: Stories From Lewiston-Auburn," a series of interviews conducted with 15 Lewiston-Auburn residents about places that have particular meaning for them, at 5 p.m.Friday, April 7, in Chase Hall Lounge on Campus Avenue. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Clarinetist Richard Stoltzman to perform at Bates April 2

Performing a program of American composers, including works by George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein, clarinetist Richard Stoltzman will give the final performance of the 1999-2000 Bates College Concert series at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 2, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors and may be purchased by calling 207-786-6252.

Sociologist to discuss new reproductive technologies

Carol Joffee, an expert on the sociology of reproductive healthcare, will discuss "New Reproductive Technologies: Will They Reshape the Old Abortion Struggle?" at 4:10 p.m. Thursday, March 30, in Chase Hall on the Bates College campus. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Comedy of medieval Japan to be performed at Bates

The Department of German, Russian And East Asian Languages and Literatures, in conjunction with the Asian studies program at Bates College, presents "Kyogen: Comedy of Medieval Japan" to be performed by the International Classical Theater from Lawrence, Kansas, at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1, in the Alumni Gymnasium at Bates College. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Senior Exhibition opens at Bates Museum of Art

Thirteen Bates College seniors will show their work in the annual Senior Exhibition, on view April 7 through May 28 at the Bates College Museum of Art. The exhibition opens with a reception at 7 p.m. Friday, April 7, in the Bates Museum of Art. Also on view will be "Inner Perspectives," curated by Bates Museum of Art intern Lana Vogestad and featuring artists from the Peregrine Press. The public is invited to attend, and admission is free for the reception and both exhibitions.

Bates to host State Odyssey of the Mind Tournament April 8

Seventy student teams from grades kindergarten through high school will compete at the day-long Maine State Odyssey of the Mind Tournament beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at various sites on the Bates College campus. The 12 state champion teams that emerge from the tournament at Bates will go on to compete at the Odyssey of the Mind 2000 World Finals at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, May 31-June 3. The public is invited to attend the state tournament at Bates free of charge.

Bates Modern Dance Company to perform

The Bates College Modern Dance Company, under the artistic direction of Marcy Plavin, presents "Form, Function and Chaos," a concert showcasing the talents of 14 student artists, and featuring two works by Terese Freedman and Jim Coleman commissioned by the college as part of its millennial celebration, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 31; 8 p.m. Saturday, April 1; and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2, in Schaeffer Theatre on College Street.

Walsh to deliver Founders Day Convocation address at Bates

Diana Chapman Walsh, the 12th president of Wellesley College in Wellesley, Mass., will discuss "Living Our Stories Well" at noon, Monday, April 3, in Alumni Gymnasium as part of Bates' annual Founders Day Convocation, a time when the college reflects on the principles that were at its founding and continue to sustain it. The public is invited to attend the convocation without charge.

Photojournalist to speak in Bates spiritual series

Willem Breuker Kollektief gives Bates College Concert Series performance
