Northfield student wins Fulbright ScholarshipKari M. Jorgensen, formerly of Northfield, Minn., received a Fulbright scholarship to conduct research in Turkey on the transition of women’s roles in Islamic mysticism and Turkish politics between the late Ottoman and early Republican periods. Jorgensen also will be studying Ottoman and modern Turkish. |

Education professor wins teaching awardBrunswick resident Anne Wescott Dodd, chair of the Department of Education at Bates College, has received the 2000 Kroepsch Award for Excellence in Teaching. The two-part award includes a $1,000 prize and a $1,500 discretionary fund to support Dodd’s teaching. |

Lakeside concert series to be held at BatesThe Bates College Midsummer Lakeside Concert Series will present five Thursday evening musical performances at the open-air Florence Keigwin Amphitheater overlooking Lake Andrews behind the Olin Arts Center.
