Bates to hold panel discussion on forestry referendum

"Voting on the Future of Maine's Forest," a panel discussion on the statewide forestry referendum "An Act Regarding Forestry Practices," will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, the Edmund S. Muskie Archives at Bates College. The public is invited to attend this presentation sponsored by the Muskie Archives Speakers Series free of charge.
Annual Kendall Concert features Portland String Quartet

The Portland String Quartet will perform "The Art of Fugue" by J.S. Bach on the 250th anniversary of his death at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The public is invited to attend the annual Edith C. and Raymond L. Kendall Concert, and the reception that immediately follows in the Olin lobby, free of charge.

Environmental activist and writer Julia Butterfly Hill, who spent two years living in an ancient California redwood tree to protect it from loggers, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, in the Bates College Chapel. The public is invited to attend free of charge.
Andrew Wyeth's granddaughter organizes major exhibit of his work

Bates College senior Victoria Wyeth has organized "Andrew Wyeth: Her Room," the first curated exhibition by his only grandchild, as the capstone of the Bates College Museum of Art's 2000-01 season. The exhibition, with guided tours offered by Victoria Wyeth on weekends, runs from Nov. 10, 2000, through March 30, 2001. The public is invited to attend the opening reception at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, in the museum's upper gallery free of charge.
