Kalichstein–Laredo–Robinson Trio continues 2000–01 Bates College Concert Series

The 200001 Bates College Concert Series continues with the internationally acclaimed KalichsteinLaredoRobinson Trio performing at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The performance is part of the college’s six-concert program of classical, jazz and world music that runs through March 29. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $8 for students and seniors. Since making their debut as the KallichsteinLaredoRobinson Trio at the White House for President Jimmy Carter’s inauguration in January 1977, pianist Joseph Kalichstein, violinist Jaime Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson have shared standard repertoire and commissioned works with audiences in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia for more than 20 consecutive seasons.

Last season, the KalichsteinLaredoRobinson trio appeared at Carnegie Hall at a concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of Jaime Laredo’s Carnegie debut recital. They were also featured performers at the National Symphony Orchestra’s Beethoven Festival, conducted by Leonard Slatkin, and performed at Carnegie Hall’s “Centennial Series” which helped celebrate the 100th birthday of one of this country’s most illustrious music centers.

The trio has appeared at major international music festivals in Aldeburgh, Edinburgh, Grenada, Helsinki and Tivoli and performed in Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Lisbon, London, Vienna and Paris.

Highlights from their vast discography include a two-disc set the of complete chamber works of Ravel, a critically-acclaimed all-Haydn release, recordings of the complete Brahms and Mendelssohn trios and the complete string sonatas and trios of Shostakovich.

The New York Times calls the trio “one of the best-blended, most sensitive and intelligent piano trios in the world today.” According to the Chicago Sun Times: “There is no finer piano trio than Kallichstein-Laredo Robinson.”
