Physical Plant electrician Jerald Conners prepares for the re-installation.
Jerald Conners surveys the Quad, which features other landmarks given by alumni in 1931: the Class of 1929 Gateway, the Class of 1906 Gateway and the Flag Pole, given by the College Club (now the College Key) and the Bates Fund. That year also saw the Bobcat Championship Record Board given by the Class of 1928 and the Hartshorn Book Collection by the Class of 1916.
Plourde and Bates electrician Mark Dubord hoist the clock, which was a gift of the graduating Class of 1931 at its Commencement, into its frame.
Ken Plourde cleans the glass first.
A gentle reminder is posted on the wall.

The Class of 1931 Clock atop the Hathorn Hall porch is a small but eye-catching Bates landmark. Yet for the last few months the clock had, as the saying goes, shown the correct time only twice a day. So the College took it down and repaired it (faulty relays was the diagnosis), and on Jan. 5 Facility Services staff and a technician from Simplex-Grinnell re-installed the fixed face.
