Food, Culture, and Performance

Myron Beasley (right), visiting assistant professor of American cultural studies and African American studies, consults with Rob Munro ’08 and Lilian Rossow-Greenberg ’09 prior to a “performative meal” presented in the Bates Mill. Held in conjunction with Museum L-A, the event culminated Beasley’s Short Term seminar, “Food, Culture, and Performance.” Examining cultural engagement through food (here, a squash-crab bisque served in a soup-kitchen setting) students prepared for the event by interviewing local citizens to gather stories, histories, and recipes.
