Many of my friends from Bates have been working in New York this summer - as receptionists, interns, button sorters, etc.. - and I am finally making my way up to their subletted apartments.

How does one define productivity at the end of an era?

So it is my second to final night here at Upaya and I am antsy to return to my life as I once knew it. I won’t forget this experience when I return to Bates to continue my academic life.

In a Boston Globe story about what was probably the last visit to Kennebunkport by a "Bush who is a sitting president," reporter Matt Viser interviewed self-described "little guy" Steve Kingston '88, owner of The Clam Shack. During the George W. Bush presidency, Kingston has provided lobster for international dignitaries and once was interviewed by the Arabic news channel Al Jazeera.

Being home and preparing to head back up to Maine naturally makes me think of the end of the summer when I will be heading north for my sophomore year at Bates.
