Nine college and university presidents including Bates President Elaine Tuttle Hansen were invited to join about two dozen members of national news media recently in a dialogue on higher education.

In their first collaboration in several years, the Bates College Orchestra and the Bowdoin College Orchestra will join forces to perform music by Beethoven, Rossini, Schumann and others in concerts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall at Bates College, 75 Russell St.; and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, in the Studzinski Recital Hall at Bowdoin College, South Campus Drive, Brunswick.

Roy Baumeister, an influential social psychologist at Florida State University, visits Bates College to discuss the mental processes enabling individuals to control their behavior at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18, in the Keck Classroom (G52), Pettengill Hall, 4 Andrews Road (Alumni Walk). Marshall Brown, professor of English and comparative literature at Washington University, will give a talk titled "Frankenstein: A Child's Story" at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in Chase Hall Lounge, Bates College, Campus Avenue. The public is welcome to attend free of charge.
