NEH grant supports preservation of Hartley materials at museum

The Bates College Museum of Art has received a $6,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to support the preservation of the college's Marsden Hartley Memorial Collection, an assortment of artworks, personal effects and other materials relating to the Maine native and pioneering American modernist painter.

Paul Heroux, a ceramicist on the Bates studio art faculty who has been described as a "painter who uses clay as his canvas," is one of 15 members of the Maine Crafts Association showing work in "The Inspired Hand IV," an exhibition in the Atrium Gallery at the University of Southern Maine's Lewiston-Auburn College.

'You Can't Take It With You' opens March 5

Martin Andrucki, Dana Professor of Theater at Bates College, directs the theater department production of "You Can't Take It With You," the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. Performances take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 5, 6, 12 and 13; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7 and 14, in Schaeffer Theatre, 305 College St.
