Times-Union reports first Samuelson mother-daughter road race
The Times-Union of Albany, N.Y., reports that Joan Benoit Samuelson, the 1984 Olympic marathon gold medalist, and daughter Abby ’10 will run a road race together for the first time, in the Freihofer’s Run for Women on June 5. Reporter Pete Iorizzo notes that “they’re making it part of a mother-daughter drip to celebrate Abby’s graduation from Bates College…where she was part of the cross country and Nordic ski teams.” Abby said with a laugh that “I don’t like running with her. She’s always pushing the pace.” Said Joan, “It’s the beginning of a new life for both of us, so we thought it would be fun to do something like this together.” View story from The Times-Union, June 1, 2010.
