Bates Dance Festival continues with Musicians' Concert

The Bates Dance Festival announces its 29th season of public events, taking place through Aug. 13 on the Bates College campus. The six-week festival showcases contemporary performance works by Camille A. Brown & Dancers, Nicholas Leichter Dance, Zoe | Juniper, The Equus Projects and Black Label Movement, and David Dorfman Dance. These acclaimed and innovative companies offer evenings rich in storytelling, virtuosity, passion and humor. All told, the festival comprises performances, panel discussions and lectures by more than 40 internationally recognized dancers from across the United States and abroad.

Clean Sweep raises more than $16,000 for local nonprofits

The 11th annual Clean Sweep, Bates College's green "garage sale" of appliances, furniture, electronics and other goods donated by departing students, raised $16,540 in proceeds that will be divided among 13 local nonprofit organizations.

On June 27, right on schedule, faculty members in philosophy, religious studies and environmental studies moved into their new offices in the renovated Hedge Hall. About 10 faculty and staff, out of 20 total occupants, were on campus to take possession of their new quarters, says project manager Paul Farnsworth.
