The Department of English is delighted to welcome our new faculty member, Therí Pickens, who comes to us from Pitzer College. In the fall, Assistant Professor Pickens will teach AA/EN 121J, African American Literature.

We’re very pleased to welcome back Mollie Godfrey, who is replacing Eden Osucha in 2011-12. Professor Godfrey will be teaching ENG 142, Early American Literature, and ENG 242, American Literary Realisms, in the fall semester.

It’s a pleasure to have Ruth Lexton joining us as well. Visiting Assistant Professor Lexton comes to us from Columbia, and replaces Sylvia Federico in 2011-12. She will teach CM/EN 121D, The Many Lives of King Arthur, in the fall semester, as well as a 200-level medieval literature course not yet listed on Garnet Gateway.

Novelist Jessica Anthony (The Convalescent, McSweeney’s, 2009) also returns to Bates in September, teaching ENG 391, Advanced Prose Writing.

As many of you know, the English department bid farewell to Carole Taylor, who retired in May. We will miss her!

Finally, perhaps our most important summer announcement is that the English department is moving from Pettigrew Hall to the third floor of Hathorn Hall this August. In September, you will be able to find us in our new offices. We look forward to seeing you there!
