Summer Newsletter 2011: History

In the wee small hours

This will be a year of new faces as the department welcomes four new visiting faculty. In addition, two members are returning while two others are away for part or all of the year.

Dennis Grafflin and Michael Jones are both returning from sabbatical years. Brad Proctor ’04 will offer two courses in United States history. Aimée Bessire, who has taught at Bates recently, will present new courses on American cultural history, and Micah Pawling will teach courses in Colonial, Native American and Maine history.

Jason Thompson expands our curriculum into the Middle East with courses in ancient Egypt and the Middle East, as well as Victorian Britain. We wish Margaret Creighton a restful and productive sabbatical and Joe Hall a pleasant fall semester teaching in France.
